GBARAIN POWER PLANT TO BE COMMISSIONED, AS FG APPROVES SHIP BUILDING YARD FOR BAYELSA STATE

Vice President Namadi Sambo has disclosed that, the Gbarain Power Plant in Bayelsa State is to be commissioned soon to improve electricity supply as well as meet the power needs of the people of the State.

Vice President Sambo announced this when he received the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson when he led a high-powered delegation of Government officials, Royal fathers and other stakeholders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Vice President said other projects would also be commissioned in the State, noting that the Ship building yard being promoted by the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA has been approved, while the Brass LNG was on track.

“I want to inform you that the Brass LNG is on course and the ship building yard which is being promoted by NIMASA has also been approved and soon Bayelsa State will be the first ship building State in this part of Africa and we are also supporting Bayelsa to in the construction of an airport.” he said.

Applauding Governor Dickson for the new projects springing up in the State, Alhaji Sambo pointed out that the Governor has keyed into the transformation agenda of the Federal Government to create wealth among the people, stating that “by 2020, Nigeria would become one of the most developed countries of the world.”

In his remarks, Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson implored Vice President Namadi Sambo to remain focused in the task of building a united, indivisible and stable country founded on the principles of progressive ideals and prosperity.

Describing the presidency as united and one that was free from rancor, the Governor lauded Alhaji Sambo for his commitment to the transformation Government towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the country.

He particularly commended the Vice President for his demonstration of loyalty, support and selfless service in the course of working with President Goodluck Jonathan in the task of moving the country to the next level through the transformation agenda which he noted was already succeeding.

In his words: “this is one presidency that is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy without rancor and division and that is poised to take the country to higher glory.”

While expressing appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Bayelsa State, Governor Dickson urged the number two citizen of the country not to be deterred by the antics of those who do not mean well for the nation especially as the country approaches another election period.

Also speaking, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, intimated Governor Dickson of the progress made so far on the East West road project, explaining that, the project, which is worth over N350 billion will be delivered by the end of this year as 38 out of the 42 bridges and 867culverts have been completed.

He said by the end of April, earth-filling would be done around the area between Patani in Delta and Kaiama in Bayelsa State, adding that the contractor decided to focus on the critical aspect of the road involving construction of bridges and culverts which were almost completed.

GROUP PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON DICKSON’S ADMINISTRATION, AS IT MARKS TWO YEARS IN OFFICE

As the Bayelsa State Government gets set to commission a number of developmental projects including the multi-billion naira Yenagoa/Tombia/Amassoma road as part of activities marking the Restoration government’s two years in office, a non-governmental organization, (NGO), Bayelsa Action Group, Lagos has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Seriake Dickson, urging him to sustain the tempo of development across the State.

The Government, in the last two years has completed sizeable number of road project while others are ongoing including the three senatorial district roads. It will be recalled that in December, 2013, the State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Retd) for the first time in the history of the state drove to Nembe.

It would be recalled that Governor Dickson during one of his transparency briefings underscored the economic relevance of the Ogbia/Nembe road to the State and released a back-up fund of N3bn to the management of Setraco Plc for its completion.

Impressed by this development, the group in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ayibatonye Akari and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, stated that Hon. Dickson’s giant strides, especially in the provision of infrastructure deserves commendation.

The statement reads,” Governor Dickson, in spite of the fluctuating monthly allocation from the Federation Account has been able to prove his critics wrong, as nobody expects this much from him in terms of infrastructural development.

“Over 75% of the communities in the State are not accessible by road but on assumption of office, the Governor made it one of his cardinal objectives by opening up the roads to the 3 senatorial districts, which is aimed at boosting commerce and Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR) of the State.

If the Government could achieve so much just two years in office, then there is greater hope for the future of the State, regardless of the political shenanigans employed by its opponents. Bayelsa is the only homogenous Ijaw State in the Country, instead of fanning the embers of crisis, Bayelsans, at home and in the diaspora should rally round the present administration,” it advised.

The group, therefore, warned the people against carrying out actions that are inimical to the development of the State, adding that what should be paramount in the minds of the people is how to move the State forward.

It also called on Governor Dickson to sustain the present pace of development activities in the State and ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects.

The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor had during a post-Executive Council briefing, listed some of the key projects to be commissioned including the Tombia-Etegwe road/bridges, Road Safety road in Yenagoa and access road to Isaac Boro town at Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of the State, amongst others.

IYC CANDIDATES SAY NO TO FRESH ELECTION

Aggrieved IYC candidates say No to fresh election, team up with Eradiri led Exco

Peace has finally returned to the crisis rocked Ijaw Youth Council, as ten out of the seventeen aggrieved Presidential candidates at the 2013 National Convention at the weekend in Yenagoa resolved to work with Comrade Udengs Eradiri led executive council.

The prominent Ijaw leader and Elder stateman, Chief Edwin Clark had in a statement on Friday called on the aggrieved parties to sheath sword and allow the peace to reign, assuring that prominent leaders from the zone are deliberating over the matter in Abuja.

Barely 24 hours after the statement was issued, ten out of the seventeen aggrieved members decided to toe the path of peace by aligning themselves with Eradiri led Executive Council. By this act, they have dissociated themselves from the conduct of fresh election.

Addressing newsmen, the ten presidential candidates said their decision was borne out of their love for Ijaw nation, especially the love they have for highly referred Ijaw leader, Chief Clark who took it upon himself to intervene in the matter.

Speaking on behalf of other candidates, Comrade Joshua Amangala said, though they had their misgivings about the election that brought about thpresent IYC executives, "I am happy and proud to announce that we have resolved our differences and have agreed to work together as a family.

This is as a result of the intervention of our father, Chief EK Clark who is the leader Ijaw nation and other prominent Ijaw leaders across the world that prevailed on us to see reason why we need to sheathe our sword and work closely with brother, Comrade Udengs Eradiri who is the president of the IYC to support and encourage him to steer the ship of the IYC to where we all dream of.

Moreover, we know Eradiri has the capacity and what it takes to lead the IYC that is why we are here to tell the world that we have resolved our differences and henceforth working together."
