Bayelsa Builds Apartments For House Officers – Nigerian Observer

Yenagoa – The Bayelsa State Government said it had embarked on the construction of a multi-million naira two-storey building of 30 apartments for medical House Officers in the state.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Mr. Lawrence Ewrudiakpor, said this in Yenagoa after inspecting some major projects in the state.
Ewrudiakpor said that the construction of the apartments was to address the accommodation challenge experienced by the officers as well as to complement Federal Government’s effort at ensuring quality healthcare for the citizens.
“The structure at the Federal Medical Centre is House Officers quarters. You know currently, house officers are coming there to do their housemanship; unfortunately, they don’t have quarters for them.
“And so, they made plea to the governor and as government, we are partnering with the federal government, we decided to construct two blocks of 30 self-contained two-storey building for them.
“Now, we have also visited Onopa Bridge, Azikoro road, the contractors are working hard and we are impressed with the pace of work there.
“We also visited Yenagoa-Oporoma road, the piling of the bridge at Igibiri is completed; sand filling has gone towards Agobiri.
“We’ve also visited the club house at Onopa and the work is progressing as planned and from what the contractors have told us, they are going to meet up the July deadline.
“So, we are impressed with that job.“
He said that the state government was also building an Archive Centre that would serve as reference centre for the people.
The Commissioner pointed out that the edifice, when completed, would go a long way in job creation as it would house information about the history of the people.
Ewrudiakpor said that housing, road, and bridge projects were “pertinent“ to economic development.
He urged the people of Bayelsa to support the state government’s Restoration Agenda.
