Chevron Commits Additional $40 Million to Niger Delta Partnership

Chevron Commits Additional $40 Million to Niger Delta Partnership

Chevron Corporation has announced a five-year, $40 million commitment to the Niger Delta Partnership Initiative Foundation, which it helped create in 2010 with a $50 million endowment gift.
To be augmented by other donors and partners, the funds will enable NDPI to expand and scale its economic development programs and partnerships, improve the capacity of civil society institutions in the country, and support efforts to reduce conflict in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. To date, the initiative has helped create more than 600 jobs, supported nearly 100 local businesses, trained more than 5,500 local community members and development practitioners, and engaged 172 local partner organizations in developing and implementing its projects. The $90 million commitment is the largest philanthropic initiative in Chevron's history.
"Partnering is at the core of what NDPI is all about," said the foundation's executive director, Dennis Flemming. "Our goal is to continue to engage partners from both the public and private sector donor community to leverage this $40 million and enhance our projects in ways that will create further substantive regional impact."
