Bayelsa Speaker advocates mobile police station

Bayelsa Speaker advocates mobile police station

In a bid to curb the upsurge of crime in Southern Ijaw constituency IV, Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday, has called for the establishment of a mobile police base in Korokorosei community, in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state. The Speaker, who made the call, when he visited his mother-in-law’s family house, at Seibiri compound, Korokorosei, to sympathise with them over the kidnap of their daughter, Mrs. Ogboro Orumo (nee) Agah, (his mother-in-law) kidnapped by unknown gunmen recently, appealed to the family members to be patient, as the matter has been reported to the police for action.

While lamenting the increase in crime rate in the area, Rt. Hon. Benson Friday, advised the youths to rather take advantage of the numerous educational opportunities created by the restoration government and stay away from crime. He called on youths in the area not to allow themselves to be lured into the crime of kidnapping, among other heinous crimes that come with unimaginable consequences in the future, reiterating that the long arm of the law will always catch up those that perpetrate such atrocious crimes.

According to the Speaker, the area has benefited immensely from the restoration government in the spread of developmental projects more than any other administration in the state, pointing out that the recent spate of crime in the area was worrisome, calling on the traditional rulers, youth leaders, opinion leaders, parents and the clergy to join hands with the restoration government to fish out criminal elements. It will be recalled that the fourth Bayelsa State House of Assembly, under Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday, passed the Bayelsa State Kidnapping and Allied Offences Bill, 2013. Any person who commits the offence of kidnapping under the law shall, upon trial and conviction, be sentenced to death.

The sentence of death imposed under the law may be executed by hanging the offender by the neck till he/she is dead or by causing such offender to suffer death by firing squad as the governor may direct. -
