Nigeria: Terrorism - Governors Not Doing Enough - Dickson
Yenagoa — Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said that governors are not doing enough to support the Federal Government in the on-going war against terrorism in the country.
Dickson said the armed forces and the Federal Government deserved the support of the governors to surmount the insecurity challenges in the country.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Dickson said this when the Commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Major General Emmanuel Atewe, and the Chief of Training and Operations, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Major General Ebibowei Awala, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.
Describing the nation's military as a treasured institution, Dickson appealed to his colleagues not to see the support for the military as the exclusive preserve of the Federal Government, adding that the military institution does not belong to any incumbent political leader.
He called on the political class to show patriotism by sinking their differences and rallying round security agencies to protect lives and property and the territorial integrity of the country.
"In all countries and at all times, when nations face dangers and come under attack by a common enemy, political leaders sink their differences and unite to address the common problem. Let Nigeria's case not be different," he said.
