Ritualists pluck out prostitute’s eyes in Bayelsa

Insecurity has heightened in Bayelsa State following the plucking out of the eyes of a commercial sex worker in Yenagoa by three men suspected to be ritualists.
This is just as the police scuttled an attempt by an angry mob to set a suspected ritualist ablaze in the state capital.
Sources said the prostitute and two of her ‘colleagues’ were penultimate week Friday approached by three men driving in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) around the Oil Palm area of Yenagoa for an outing on the outskirts with a negotiated N30, 000 fee.
But while the other girls refused to go, the victim, who is now lying at the emergency ward of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, followed the three men.
It was gathered that the men drove off but later stopped at a bush path and took turns to make love to her.
They were said to have held her down and had her eyes gouged out after the love-making bouts.
Her cry of anguish by the roadside later attracted other passers-by who took her to the police station.
It was the police who took the lady to the FMC where surgeries were performed on her.
A consultant who did not want to be named said the case had been handed to the state directorate of social welfare as the lady, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was yet to be visited by any of her relations.
She was said to be a resident prostitute at the notorious Yenagoa Red Light District also known as Good Evening Street along Hospital Road in downtown Yenagoa.
Meanwhile, policemen attached to the state-owned Special Security outfit, ‘Operation Door Akpo’ have thwarted attempt by an angry mob to set ablaze a suspected ritualist over alleged abduction of a six-year old boy along the Azikoro Village in Yenagoa Local Council Area of the state.
The ritualist’s attempt to kidnap the little boy was said to have provoked anger and a sense of insecurity among residents of the area.
It was gathered that the man is a popular Hausa man who picks iron wastes and other discarded materials on the streets and in dustbins in the area.
According to an eye witness account, the “Aboki” had asked the boy to get him a sachet of water but when the boy came with the water, the suspect gagged him and dropped him inside a sack.
“He fixed cotton wool inside the nose of the boy and tied up the sack. The sack was then dropped into the truck he was pushing.
“He pretended to continue his business of hitting the truck and calling on residents interested in selling unused iron materials”, he said.
But luck, however, ran out on him when another 10-year old boy, who was on errand to buy biscuit saw him forcing the boy into the sack reported what he witnessed to some people working in a nearby building.
“The 10-year-old boy ran to an uncompleted building where some masons were working and raised alarm. The quick action of the men at the site led to the rescue of the boy and the arrest of the suspect.”
Attempts by angry residents to set the suspect on fire with disused tires were stopped by the quick arrival of the police.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of Bayelsa Police Command, Alex Akhigbe, said details on the two incidents were not immediately available with the police.
“But the command is doing everything to ensure security of lives and property in the state. We need the people to be cautious and not take law into their own hands”, he said.
