Bayelsa State Government at the weekend said it has inaugurated 224 representatives for Rural Development Authority Member Forum, RDAMF, to oversee and promote development from the grassroots.
The Forum’s Chairman, Mr Godstime Abeki told newsmen in Yenagoa that the 224 members were drawn from the 32 rural development authorities, RDAs, in the state.
“That is to say that, seven persons are representing each of the RDAs and this is the highest appointees from the state government.
“The sole aim of the forum was to get government much closer to the rural people and advance progress.
“The forum has plans, and as you know that we are mainly grassroots based politicians, our objective is to hold the grassroots socio-political development firm.
“Our first step is going to be on capacity building to improve knowledge, then after that we will embark on skill acquisition programme, especially for the grassroots people.
“We want to do this because development is much needed in the rural community; the people will be trained in various skills that will make them self-employed”, Abeki said.
Mr Adire Ayebainaemi, the Forum’s Secretary commended the state government idea to accelerate development from the grassroots level.
Ayebainaemi expressed optimism that the formulation of RDA’s forum was a step in the right direction in integrating the rural people to the state government’s restoration agenda.
