Youth Empowerment: WFO To Build Fashion University In Bayelsa

Bayelsa will be home to the 6th Fashion University built by the WFO as Governor Dickson is named 'the Grand Supporter of Fashion
Are you one of those who think that fashion designing, or tailoring as it is locally called, is for school drop-outs?
Well, if that is a YES, then you must have a rethink as the World Fashion Organisation has intimated of plans to a Fashion University in Bayelsa State, south-south Nigeria, according to a Leadership report.
The Vice President of the World Fashion Organization, Europe, Mr. Borgogelli Percario, who announced the decision, said Bayelsa state was chosen because of it is peaceful and supportive of the arts.
Also speaking at the event,  the Patron of the World Fashion Organisation Africa, Dr Merit Gordon Obua, said  'the University will be used to fight poverty through the training and empowerment of youths to be independent entrepreneurs.'
“This event is a project targeted at promoting the investment opportunity available in Africa. The event is to exchange ideas to fight poverty.
"Indonesia was like that and they used Fashion to change their story. India used fashion to add over 4 per cent to their GDP,” Leadership quoted Obua as saying.
Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon Seriake Dickson, who was also given an award of 'the Grand Supporter of Fashion in West Africa award in recognition of his administration’s efforts at promoting the creative arts' said his administration is ready to partner with  WFO on the project.
“As you are all aware one of the schools we have built is the Tourism and Hospitality Institute.
"I have directed the Rector of that school to partner with you, so that, you can kick off with your department for fashion and modeling here. That school will start off from September, this year,” Dickson said.
Bayelsa state has hosted the Africa Movies Academy Awards, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, (MBGN), International Jazz festival and the Caribbean African American Nations (CAAN) awards within the last two years.
The proposed institution will be the sixth of its kind in the  world
