'Foukunou Canal Bridge in Delta to Connect Bayelsa’

THE construction of a N500 million Foukunou Canal Bridge in Tuomo town, an agrarian community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has gotten to a piling stage and will be be completed soon.
The communities that will benefit from the integration of the bridge include Ogubagbene, Tibigbe, Tamigbe, Tuomo, Ojobo, Turogbene, Indoro and Alebre from both Delta and Bayelsa states.
Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Delta State Commissioner for Works, disclosed at the Tuomo Town during an inspection of projects, recently.
He said the bridge is intended to be finished quickly in accordance with the finishing strong agenda of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to help fast-track meaningful development aimed at integrating the suburbs /rural communities to the urban centres, have quick and easy accessibility.
The new bridge, he said, would integrate the other communities in the state and Bayelsa State, charging the community to corporate with the contractors to ensure that the work is not affected by any undue interference even as the Commissioner on behalf of the state government urged the community to end their leadership tussle to attract more projects to the community.
The commissioner said he felt elated that the construction of the bridge in Tuomo has gotten to the pilling stage especially that the bridge will facilitate the smooth movement of goods and services.
‘’The communities must understand their roles in governance, stressing that when communities are peaceful, local governments are peaceful, the state will be peaceful, stressing that “any community in this state that disrupts government projects will lose that project.
“We will stop it, relocate it to another place, and we will also arrest the leaders of that place and prosecute them. So refrain from it; don’t do anything negative and we will continue to do things. If today we have a bridge here, who knows government can decide to do something else in this community”, the Commissioner said.
The contractor, Mr. Jihad Aoun, handling the construction of the bridge, assured that the job would be completed as scheduled, assuring the state government and the community that if there was no problem, the job will be delivered on time with good quality and under the specification given to them by the Ministry of Works.
