Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, has assured the World Bank and European Union of the state government’s preparedness to implement counterpart projects to attract desired development in the state. The deputy governor stated this recently in his office in Government House, Yenagoa when he granted audience to representatives from the World Bank and the European Union who were in the state to assess the level of implementation of projects under the State Employment and Expenditure for Result, SEEFOR, in the state.
He said the state government attached premium to most of the counterpart programmes such as SEEFOR and MDGs, adding that 1200 youths will soon be engaged under the small public works programme of the project. Earlier, the representative from the World Bank, Mr Jens kristensen said they were in the state to assess the level of implementation of SEEFFOR progammes in the state.
Mr Kristenten informed that, presently, Bayelsa State was benefiting from the World Bank up to the tune of 55 million US Dollars while the European Union was contributing the sum of 16 million US Dollars to the project, pointing out that, they were pleased to partner with the state to engender the desired development. Also speaking, the representative of the European Union, Mr Omotunde Oni, noted that the European Union was very pleased to be involved in the programme because it was hinged on the state government’s development reforms as well as in tandem with the development strategies of the EU.
He further said that the programme was also being sponsored to address some of the inherent developmental challenges confronting the people of the Niger Delta and was glad to partner with other development agencies to improve the standard of living of the people in the area.
