Bayelsa State In Nigeria To Host World Leaders / L’Etat De Bayelsa Va Acceuillir Les Leaders Du Monde

The Government of Bayelsa State, Nigeria today announced it completed preparations to host the world economic leaders between 16 and 18 July 2014 for its leading economic and investment forum on the theme “Harnessing the economic potential of Bayelsa State.”

Presenting this information during a press conference in Lagos, the Commissioner of State for Trade, Industry and Investment, Mr. Kemela Okara, said the forum is in line with the current economic policy of the administration, which encourages the private sector based economy, which has already attracted some foreign investors.

“We hope that potential investors from around the world, Nigeria and among the diaspora of Bayelsa, will seize the opportunities that arise in agriculture, aquaculture, oil and gas, tourism and hospitality and that energy, “he said.

He also said that, in keeping with the strategy of the administration to state the African Dubai, the government is creating an enabling environment, including the required security infrastructure and a legal framework favorable to investors.

The Commissioner discussed some ongoing projects that could strongly interested potential investors: the port of Agge deep waters, Cargo Airport, a diagnostic center globally, a 5-star hotel project for several billion naira and that the government’s plan to establish a free trade zone in which local tax will not apply.

The Director-General of Investment Promotion Agency of Bayelsa (Bayelsa Investment Promotion Agency), Freda Murray-Bruce said this in mind, the choice of Bayelsa to host many international events over the past two and a half years, attests to the fact that it is the most quiet of the country.

Highlighting the achievements of the administration led by Governor Seriake Dickson, the press chief Daniel Iworiso-Markson announced that the state now generates 1 billion naira per month internal revenue (Internally generated revenue (IGR)) , an increase of 1,000 percent; forecasts indicate 6 billion naira in the coming years. This will be possible only inviting foreign investors and domestic invest time.

Referring to the importance of the energy sector in the economy, the Special Adviser to the Governor investment Cyril Akika revealed that the government plans to generate additional 3,000 MW, compared to the current energy production in order to increase the power supply to the state.
