CLERGY WARS: Clerics Demand Sack of Bishop in Bayelsa

Yenagoa — Aggrieved clergymen in the Niger Delta West Diocese of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Bayelsa State, have demanded the immediate sack of Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, the Bishop of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Ovom-Yenagoa.
Among sundry allegations, the angry clerics accused Oko-Jaja of maladministration, gross misconduct and disrespect for monarchs serving as pastors in the diocese.
Spokesman of the protesting clergymen, Ibaralanyo Theophilus, told newsmen in Yenagoa at the weekend that the bishop had shunned all entreaties by ordained pastors to turn a new leaf.
He said Oko-Jaja also ignored the advice of emissaries from his Opobo nativity in River State, who intervened in the matter on behalf of the monarch of Opobo with a view to brokering peace.
He said the intervention was at the instance of Oko-Jaja who complained to the Opobo monarch on his ordeal in his parish.
Theophilus stated that the bishop had allegedly ordered the arrest and detention of about eight clergymen for expressing reservations over his excesses.
